Rather than fight the traffic today, we did our best yesterday to see some of the sights around Los Angeles.
This morning, we’ve slept in. In a little while, we’ll grab lunch and make our way down to Anaheim for tonight’s game between the Angels and the Athletics.
We got over to Santa Monica yesterday morning a little after the Euro Cup game between Spain and Germany had started. Oz recommended a pub called O’Brien’s, where he met us with one of his friends, though no one cared that much about the game.
Afterwards, we piled into Oz’s car and headed to the beach, down Pacific Avenue and towards Venice Beach. Parking was hard to come by, so we parked a ways away and made the long walk.
Since it was a Sunday, the boardwalk was packed. We made our way through the crowds, stopping off to take a few pictures and watch the street performers, spending about an hour around the area. Though it was cool to see the commotion, it’s not somewhere I would frequent if I lived in the city.
With Justin’s Cubs playing the White Sox at 5, we made our way back to the same pub to catch the game and hang out with Oz, since we won’t catch him again before we leave.
We debated with whether or not to see some of LA afterwards, but since we still had some light, we made our way towards Hollywood. We drove down Sunset Boulevard, past Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and along the Avenue of the Stars; we didn’t have the energy to park, get out and wander, but I’m glad we checked it out.
It’s tough to see too much of LA, since our schedule is so busy with baseball.
But with Brad, John and Oz all living out here for at least the next couple of years, there’ll be a great chance to come back and experience the area and see the sights again soon.
